When at home, from morning ’til bedtime, I am in my clogs. I live in a 120-year-old original adobe with tile floors throughout, and steps, either up or down, between rooms. Only in clogs can I move with confidence, assured that my feet will carry me where my heart and mind wish to go.
I have purchased and worn ’til their exhaustion many clogs – always of simple wood and leather – usually made my small producers, craftswomen and men, most often Scandinavian. When I have erred, it has been owing to a compromise in purchasing from large Swedish producers.
Bresco clogs, from the moment I put them on, felt like home. More than simply comfortable, they seemingly immediately became an extension of my body, a willing accomplice in my every movement, a constantly thorough joy.
Am I surprised? A scholar of Slavic and East Asian languages and cultures, and a writer, with a deep affection for the Slavic nations from Poland to Macedonia, perhaps, initially, a clog from Poland appeared a bit of a stretch, but that only strengthened curiosity, my resolve, to give is a try. I am very glad I did. I will live in these ’til I need another pair, then buy again from Bresco.
